I studied photography and printmaking in college, then wound up working in the commercial arts (branding, illustration and design) for a bunch of years. Lately, I’ve been working in mixed media (gouache, acrylic and ink) and digital, but I have plans to get my hands back into printmaking and want to weave woodcuting and screenprinting into future books!
When crafting a story, I put the story structure and character design through the paces. But, I also ensure the surface design in my world-building supports the story too (and not-so-secretly hope to see my patterns transform kids’ bedrooms someday — like this beaver tail print below!)
